what artists do you admire the most??? (not the famous ones, but the tumblr/da ones) why??
Anonymous

you see… I was having a hard time thinking about what you meant by the tumblr/ DA artists… and not famous ones? Famous artists like Mucha or Leyendecker?

I mean there’s so many talented artists out there not just on DA and Tumblr.. so I’m going to mention the ones that really set up the way I draw… (for decades)

Clio Chiang  - well basically she’s the inspiration and reason I ended up in visual development. there’s a long back story to this but I’ve been following her since 8 or 9 years ago. so you know how much this genius means to me.

—-

David Colman  - look at his animals. look at his character designs. I was really lucky to have him as my creature design teacher, he really set up a lot of animal anatomy foundations for the class.

Krenz - anatomy, colors, because his lovely girls are adorable.

I want to mention a lot of AC artists I admire on tumblr but there’s just too many so I apologize at first ;w;

also Kurt, Jazz, and Stephan who are my colleagues at work but If they do have a chance to post their art on tumblr or DA I’ll let you guys know.

ARTISTS BEWARE!!!!!!
Here is another bad situation to look out for. I received this e-mail from a company; I will not give them any exposure by using their name. This is my personal e-mail correspondence back to them. They offer no information on the true result of being chosen and are just looking for free work. Read below and see how wrong this is, especially his response to me. Be sure to research these peoples websites and history before you get involved.

LOOKING FOR ILLUSTRATOR/CARTOONIST: Soon we will be chosing the next Illustrator for another upcoming _____ book. Do you think you can draw _____ in different positions? I am the creator of the childrens book character _______. If you think you can draw ______please send some drawing samples of ______ in a few different positions for me to review and if chosen, you could possibly be the next Illustrator for one of our next ______ book(s). Please be advised many Illustrators will be submitting, but we will only choose one. We are looking for that one Illustrator that can focus on detailed drawing of _______ in different poises/positions and capture the warm & fun character of _______.
Kind Regards, ______(author, creator of _____)

Dear _____________

I am sorry but I do not agree with what you are doing here, trying to get free visual work samples. If you see a portfolio you do not need this free work from artists. I warn artists of this type of practice all the time and it is destroying the art community. If you want samples from an illustrator you find. You should pay them for their time and then make your decision. I hope to hear back from you before I post this on my facebook page as a warning to the art community
Silver

Dear Silver,
As you are well aware Many Talented illustrators can illustrate/draw their own characters BUT are UNABLE to draw/illustrate a TradeMarked Licensed Character. The last Illustrator that was hired for a _____ book was PAID over their Quote BECAUSE that person proved to us and submitted a sample BEFORE we decided that Illustrator was worthy of a Contract. If you are one of those Illustrators that want to get PAID without Proving that they can draw/illustrate _____ then DO NOT SUBMIT.
Kind Regards, _____
P.S. If you choose to place a warning to the Art Community, that Warning would be based on what?

Dear —————
Because you show no sign of your previous book on your site or any real drawing poses of _____ anywhere on your site. Alot of companies ask artists to submit ideas so they can get ideas. This happens alot. And why should an artist just give there ideas away as a test. You would not ask a Gardner to come to your house and mow your lawn as a test to see if he will work out, a Plummer, lawyer any profession and so on. It appears to me that you are looking for inspiration, in which has value. Also why would you not use the first illustrator you hired? There is no sign of that person anywhere. I react to this because it makes me suspicious and I am also on the Graphic Artist Guild committee which is dedicated to protecting artist rights. You must also understand any artwork that is created unless paid for is owned by the artist. You also make no mention of what the book deal would even be. There is no mention of terms, structure, possible compensation if they are picked. So it is my duty to warn artists not to partake in these types of requests. Especially with the mindset that artists are a dime a dozen and not worth their ideas by stating “If you are one of those Illustrators that want to get PAID without Proving that they can draw/illustrate ______ then DO NOT SUBMIT.”
They prove they can draw with their portfolio, and with all do respect, your character is not a masterpiece that cannot be duplicated, it is very simple in design, nothing complicated about it.

November 17, 2003 - Disney has shut down production on the animated movie “A Few Good Ghosts” for creative reasons.
“A Few Good Ghosts,” which mixed traditional and computer-generated animation, had already gone through a number of title changes — including “My Peoples” and “Angel and Her No Good Sister” — and was being directed by Barry Cook, one of the directors of 1998’s “Mulan.” Set to a bluegrass score, it revolved around a group of ghosts inhabiting folk-art dolls. Its voice cast included Hal Holbrook, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin.
